Eilean Amalaig Crannog

This crannog is sited on a tidal islet immediately north east of Eilean Amalaig on the north-east side of Loch Spelve.  It measures about 28 m by 22 m.  The remains of a dry-stone wall, 16 m long of a 1.9 m wide, can be seen on the rocky, south side of the islet.  It stands 2 m high and the central portion overlooks a boat-landing on the shore below.  The wall is assumed to have been defensive and it is possible that these are the remains of a fortification built to guard the nearby anchorage on the north-east side of the loch.
