Gualachaolish

Gualachaolish

Gualachaolish, meaning ‘Hill Shoulder at the strait’, is a picturesque old ruined croft at the entrance to Loch Spelve overlooking the Firth of Lorne to Seil Island and Luing.  It was last lived in during the 1930s, so the ruins of farm, byres and steadings are still easily identifiable.  The croft was originally built in the 1800s for Middleton, who was the Factor to Colonel Campbell of Possil; the Colonel once owned the lands of Torosay and Duart.  There is a rough track from Gualachaolish down to the burial ground at Killean.
