Dun Ban, Tostarie

Dun Ban, Tostarie

This dun lies about 500 m south west of the township of Tostarie on the seashore.  It is sited on the summit of a rocky crag and is surrounded by sheer rock faces rising to a height of 5 m on the seaward side (south), but reducing to 3 m on the landward side (north).  The approach was probably via a small natural cleft on the landward side.

The summit of the crag is surrounded by a stone wall, which is now reduced to a low band of grass-grown stone debris, although outer facing-stones are still in place on two stretches.  The entrance was on the north-east side, where there is a gap in the debris.
